Title :
Diversity investigations in connection with wideband signal reception
Author :
Davidsen, Kristian
Abstract :
Our work considers diversity applied to GSM like systems with adaptive MLSE equalizers. Two different diversity schemes are investigated and validated for wideband purposes: a novel optimum combining scheme based on Ungerboeck´s matched filter model is presented and compared to the traditional selection diversity scheme. The validation of the different approaches is based on computer simulations of the GSM system primary using channel impulse responses measured in different environments. Results are presented for both uncoded class 2 bits, and class 1 bits which are convolutional coded and interleaved according to the TCH/FS channel. The presented optimum combiner is a maximum likelihood solution to the diversity problem, and is a generalization of maximum ratio combining which is optimum for narrowband signal reception
