Abstract
The purpose of the analysis is to explore the benefits of using a TCSC in the 230 kV interconnection between Colombia and Ecuador. It has been shown that the TCSC provides adequate damping of the interarea power oscillation even when the PSS has been disabled. The implemented damping control scheme for the TCSC utilizes a phasor estimation technique, which has proven to be well-behaved at large-signal disturbances. By estimating two different phasors simultaneously some damping could also be provided to a local power oscillation within the Colombian power system.
