Abstract :
In view of the potential climate change impact on wind energy resources and the limitations of some traditional indicators, this paper reassesses the wind resources of Jiangsu. Observational data of continuous wind shows mean wind speed has decreased significantly since 1990s. The new data from 67 stations for a 35-year period from 1971 to 2005 is used for accomplishing this study. Two new parameters named equivalent wind speed and active wind power density are introduced. The results indicate that there are advantages to using these new parameters, instead of available wind power density and mean wind speed. Several conclusions will be obtained, (1) we gain the geographical and seasonal distribution of wind energy, (2) the results prove the availability of the new parameters, (3) this paper give the potential exploitable zone, the coastal region and some islands are full of wind energy and vice versa in the inland.
