Abstract
The authors summarize the development of a knowledge-based expert system using the ADVISOR expert system shell. The system helps select the best design for suburban highways with the goals of improving both safety and operational efficiency. The system uses information about existing design, required basic geometries, and the desirability of various operational and safety factors, and provides suggestions on improvements
