Abstract :
The effects of image smoothing on the accuracy and the measuring range of motion estimation algorithms are analyzed, and a new efficient method of image smoothing is proposed. The performances of motion estimation algorithms are closely related to the shape of the cross-correlation function (CCF) of the consecutive frames. The authors´ concern is to widen the main lobe of CCF. To do this, several image smoothing schemes are adopted, and their effects are investigated by computer simulation
