Abstract :
We have developed a pointing user interface system that can effectively be implemented in a TV. Since pointing operations have become popular for intuitive game consoles, people recognize its ease of use. Unlike game consoles, an expensive pointing device cannot be employed for TVs because it is a very cost-sensitive product. On the other hand, an image sensor has recently been implemented in a TV as a motion sensor. Using such an image sensor, we have developed a pointing system such that the conventional TV remote controller can be used without any additional cost. With this system, customers can operate a TV through pointing operations instead of pressing many buttons.
