Abstract :
It has been shown that periodical structures always possess guiding and whispering properties. The existence criterion for all types of guiding and whispering modes has been found. The dependence of guiding frequency on the geometrical parameters of structures and the fine structure of continuous spectra of self-adjoint extension of Laplace operator has been investigated. Approximate expressions for the lower guiding frequencies have been derived [I-31.
