Abstract :
Performance properties are presented of a new class of pole/zero adaptive filters, obtained by fixing the pole locations of the filter and adapting only the zeros. The structure of these fixed pole adaptive filters is described, and a procedure is developed for selecting the pole locations based on a priori information about the optimal filter. The performance properties of the new structure are compared via simulation with other adaptive filtering structures. The experiments show that the fixed pole adaptive filters enable improved performance relative to adaptive finite impulse response (FIR), Laguerre and Kautz filters, given equal computational burden
