Abstract :
Some of the outstanding problems in designing nonuniform band filter banks are studied. The design of incompatible nonuniform filter banks is considered where aliasing cancellation is impossible. The issue of filter quality in nonuniform filter banks is studied. Some design solutions and design examples are presented. It is shown that the aliasing cancellation can always be achieved by introducing enough freedom in the system filters. It is also shown that the filtering performance of the system filters may be improved by reducing the constraints on the system filters and a proper choice of system filter passbands. A special 3-band nonuniform filter bank is studied in more detail, and some results are presented
