Abstract :
Since Chinese enterprises act as the suppliers in the global value chain, the backward technology spillover dominate the technology spillover of foreign direct investment (FDI) in China. The paper conducts an empirical analysis into the impacts on Chinese productivity of the backward technology spillover of FDI in the global value chain, by introducing the related variables into the regression model based on panel data. The results show that the backward technology spillover has significant impacts on Chinese productivity, indicating that FDI improves Chinese productivity through backward linkage; at the same time, because the Chinese suppliers are mainly in the low position of the global value chain, the producer-driven value chain and the buyer-driven value chain do not display an significant difference in the backward technical spillover effects.
