Abstract :
In this paper, the effects of various Hurst (H) parameters on the cell loss are analysed based on the G/D/1 queuing model and on FCFS basis. This study involves statistical analysis and simulation based on discrete time advance algorithm and in OPNET 7.0. In the simulation, synthetic self-similar traffic is used as an input. This traffic is based on the RMD (random midpoint displacement) algorithm. The purpose of this simulation is to describe the ATM network performance in terms of cell loss for different H-parameters. This study shows that the H-parameter has a significant effect on the performance of the network. One of the indicators is the increasing cell loss for increasing H-parameter. Furthermore, self-similar traffic results in a bursty distribution of cell loss.
