Abstract :
A personal communication system field test was conducted in Washington DC to evaluate the performance of the Personal Handy-phone System (PHS), a new standard of Japanese PCS (operating in the 1.9 GHz band). The bit error rate (BER) performance was measured simultaneously with the channel impulse responses in micro-cell environments. Test area was chosen in downtown Washington DC as a typical urban built-up area. In the test, two tiers of base station transmitting antenna were tested : a high-tier one mounted on the roof top of a building and a low-tier one mounted on a sign post
