Abstract :
A nonlinear-equalizer is presented for cancelling the amplitude modulation-to-phase modulation (AM-PM) conversion and AM compression of transmission systems. The equalizer is realized by cascaded nonlinear blocks where the nonlinearities are produced by differential amplifiers. Different types of nonlinear amplifiers are used either in cascade or in feedback configuration. The proposed nonlinear equalizer provides third-order nonlinear distortion factors suitable for the equalization of the inherent AM-PM conversion and AM compression of transmission systems. An actual equalizer has been designed operating in a 50% normalized bandwidth with maximum ranges of K=3.3°/dB and c=6 dB. By controlling the equalizer input level, the AM-PM conversion and AM compression can be adjusted within these ranges
