Abstract :
Preliminary results are presented from the development of a magnetic nerve stimulator capable of stimulating sensory nerve fibers. A magnetic stimulator producing fields near 3000 T/s at rates of 1 kHz was developed to initiate action potentials in sensory nerve axons at rates similar to those seen in vivo. Cortical somatosensory evoked potentials recorded following magnetic stimulation of rat tibial nerves demonstrated significant cerebral activity arising from the simulation
