Abstract :
An experiment was conducted to evaluate and analyze the acoustic properties of the cortical, diaphyseal bone of the human femur. The analysis not only included a regional analysis, but also an analysis of the three circumferential zones of the bone, the periosteal, middle, and endosteal zones. Differences between individual pairs as well as the transition of properties between the periosteal and endosteal bone were observed. Circular averaging over the sections as well as the generation of quantitative graphical data are presented. This technique provides a very quick quantitative analysis of the material properties of an unprocessed section of bone
