Abstract
This paper presents the latest developments in and aspects of gas-insulated switchgear- (GIS) and gas-insulated-transmission line (GIL) technologies. The first 2-cycle GIS circuit breaker for a rated voltage of 550 kV and a rated short-circuit breaking current of 63 kA, which is based on a self-compression interrupter system and a storedenergy spring mechanism is presented, for example. Aspects, such as resistance to earthquakes as well as point-on-wave switching are described as well.
