Abstract :
The purpose of this paper is to explore the relationship between symmetry and locality-properties which are regarded as desirable in any image representation and which are frequently mentioned in connection with wavelet transforms. It is shown how the two conspire to cause uncertainty; a new form of the uncertainty principle is introduced and a novel window design technique presented
