Abstract
The performance of a code-division multiple access (CDMA) system is discussed. This work is pertinent to a satellite system architecture proposed for the future data relay satellite (DRS) of the European Space Agency (ESA). The limitations of this type of access are due to interference from other users. These limitations are magnified by variations in signal strength at the demodulator input. A quantitative evaluation of the differences in signal power is carried out. It is demonstrated that the use of CDMA in the proposed scenario implies restrictive operating conditions or a low link availability
