Abstract
This study analyzes about the relation of signal strength and the antennas in an in-building coverage (IBC) system. An analysis is conducted in one of many commercial buildings in Malaysia with a high capacity of mobile users at a time. Signal strength in terms of Received Signal Code Power (RSCP) and Power over Noise ratio (Ec/No) is measured taking into account steel and concrete blockage. This paper also studies the relation of strength vs. distance and the strength of overlapping signals of the same frequency. Walk tests have been conducted to obtain results at the study area with average capacity of mobile users present. Analysis of signal strength is based on the walk test results. An average of -65dBm is obtained when distance is 3meters away from radiating antenna and -73dBm with 10meters radius away from radiating antenna. Overlapping signals shows stronger RSCP signal strength.
