Abstract :
Positive gain is obtained in 1460 to 1520 nm region of single pass configuration erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) using macro-bending approach. The standard step index EDF is bent on a 0.65 cm radius rod to suppress the ASE at the longer wavelength in order to achieve the amplification in shorter wavelength region. The bent EDF shows gain and noise figure improvement than that of unbent EDF. The effect of multiple EDF lengths on gain and noise figure across S-band region is also studied.
