Abstract
The Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) is developing a framework for providing a total and integrated diagnostic capability for shipboard systems. This framework will consist of policies, standards, guides, and generic diagnostic software packages. A major part of this framework is the Navy Integrated Diagnostic Support System (IDSS). The IDSS is a research and development program to demonstrate the feasibility of an integrated approach to diagnostics. An equally important facet of IDSS is the development of generic software packages to support the ID process. The IDSS supports hardware design through its weapon system testability analyzer tool and diagnostic procedure development through its adaptive diagnostic authoring tool. In the field, a third tool, the adaptive diagnostic subsystem, uses the diagnostic data from the first two tools to fault-isolate system problems. A fourth tool, the feedback analyzer, collects and analyzes field history data and recommends corrective action
