Abstract :
An interconnection system between an Ethernet-like network and the Italian X.25 public network (ITAPAC), has been developed. One of the problems to be solved in designing this interconnection system has been the dimensioning of system memory. It is shown that the memory can be dimensioned using a single M/G/1 queue as a model. The results show by imposing constraints on both packet loss probability and maximum acceptable delay, it becomes necessary to limit the maximum utilization factor of the X.25 channel and, consequently, a few K bytes of memory are sufficient
