Abstract :
With regard to power system installed with zinc oxide (ZnO) surge arrester (MOA) based FCLs, the influence of the FCLs on safety operation and power quality is analyzed detailed by MATLAB simulations. Firstly, the impact of different current limit factors on voltage sags of bus line and the current of branch circuits during a three phase fault is investigated. Secondly, this paper presents the change of the harmonic ratio and total harmonic distortion with different current limit factors at normal conditions. Simulation results show that the installation of MOA-based FCLs in power system, not only can limit the fault current and reduce the voltage sags when a fault occurs but also can restrain the transfer of high-frequency harmonics in normal situations.
