Abstract :
A multichannel R-ALOHA protocol is designed for voice and data integration from the user point of view in a short haul communication environment. The performance of this protocol is studied through simulation for a constant probability retransmission control scheme. For a relatively small ratio of number of active users to the number of channels, a system throughput as large as 90% can be achieved with tolerable average voice message delay and acceptable voice packet dropping probability. The effects of the different system variables on the performance parameters, namely, normalized steady state system throughput, average voice message delay, average data message delay and voice packet dropping probability, have been investigated. Like S-ALOHA such a protocol would be easy to implement
