Abstract
A detailed experimental study of air flow systems for telecommunications equipment rooms is presented. Particular emphasis is placed on the factors that determine the ambient temperature of electric parts in telecommunications equipment with natural cooling. A very close relationship between the environmental surroundings of the equipment and the cooling performance has been found. The salient elements affecting air flow systems for telecommunications equipment rooms are described, and the advantages of a system with underfloor air supply and overhead return are detailed. Such systems were found to be superior in cooling high-heat-density telecommunications equipment rooms, even up to an average heat density of 1.1 kW/m2
