  • Abstract
    English text automatic proofreading technologies are still not mature enough; most methods just depend on the statistic of phrases and words by relatively simple models and little linguistic knowledge. Ontology can share concepts among different domains, and it has a certain degree of reasoning ability. This paper proposed an English text proofreading method based on ontology, which built the domain ontology library according to usual errors existing in English writings, all the individuals were set with properties that represent the relations among them, custom inference rules of checking errors and correcting errors were also provided. Finally, an English text proofreading system based on ontology (ETPSBO) was designed and implemented, which is more flexible and scalable, it works better when processing semantic level errors. The experimental results show that the system proposed by this paper is more feasible and rational than traditional methods.
