  • Abstract
This paper presents a method of assessing the impact of cascading circuit outages on low frequency interarea oscillations of power systems. An overall damping index (ODI) is defined as a measure of severity of post-contingency system conditions in terms of small signal stability. This is then used to identify the critical path for the assessment of cascading circuit outages. The method is illustrated with an example using a full model of the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) system
