Abstract
The method of fault positions is briefly introduced and used to assess the dip performance of the IEEE-RTS 24 bus system. A Monte Carlo simulation approach to the method of fault position is used to obtain the expected dip performance of the same test system. Site and system indices are estimated via both methods. The assessments are then compared. It is shown that the Monte Carlo approach provides a better description of the expected dip performance. The method of fault positions gives only long-term mean values, whereas the Monte Carlo approach provides the complete frequency distribution function of the SARFI-X index. Tables and histograms are used to present results
