Abstract
In some circumstances active or standby redundancy is used to improve the reliability of the system while in others, series redundancy is used to improve a different utility measurement of the system. In evaluating the reliability of a system with redundant components, it is often assumed that the components are independent. However, this assumption is rarely valid in practice. In this paper the effect of adding redundancy on the mean residual life time function of the system is studied when two components are dependent and have a bivariate FGM distribution. The results are then compared with the case of two independent components.
