Abstract :
Communication over the high frequency (HF) band is characterised and limited by multipath propagation, fading and noise. Equalisation techniques are used to combat distortion introduced by the channel. This paper examines the use of the SFAEST (stabilised fast a posteriori error sequential technique) algorithm to drive the equaliser coefficients. Its performance is compared with commonly used algorithms: least mean squares (LMS) and recursive least squares (RLS). Different equalising structures are examined and their advantages and disadvantages highlighted
