Abstract :
Design considerations of HVDC grounding electrode are discussed in this paper. The main topics covered in this paper are: (1) How incorrect soil resistivity measurements lead to design flaws; (2) How different types of grounding electrodes influence the leakage current distribution; (3) How different soil structures influence the grounding electrode performance; (4) How to accurately predict and take into account the non-uniform leakage current distribution of the grounding electrode in the design process. Examples have been provided in the paper and results presented in the paper can be used as a reference in designing HVDC grounding electrodes
