Abstract :
The use of carrier sense multiple access as a channel access algorithm in multihop packet radio networks is considered. When the performance of these networks is analyzed, it is usually assumed that a station will detect the presence of transmissions (carrier detection) only up to maximum transmission range for actual packet transmission (data detection). The authors use the reasonable assumption that the carrier detection range (CDR) can be larger than the data detection range and show that the performance of a network using the most forward within range routing algorithm is considerably improved using a larger CDR
