Abstract
The discrete Fourier transform (DFT) and the fast Fourier transform (FFT) are based on certain assumptions that must be understood and satisfied, or misleading results will be obtained. The authors examine these assumptions and qualitatively analyze the effect of these dangers when the FFT algorithm is supplied to power system load variation. They recommend the use of a DFT algorithm to evaluate the frequency spectrum of power system load variation.<>
