            Abstract :
An efficient data transmission strategy is proposed for existing cellular radio systems. The scheme utilizes only a single radio channel to carry all data traffic in all cells. The cells share the channel on a time-division basis with time slot reuse. The time slot is selected slightly larger than the size of the packet, so that only one packet can be transmitted in a slot. The time slot rotates among adjacent cells according to a predetermined hopping pattern. When the slot becomes available to a certain cell, the mobile units within that cell compete for it using a slotted ALOHA-type access protocol. It is demonstrated that this type of access strategy is efficient and simple to implement within the structure of existing networks
