Abstract :
In October 1996, Manitoba Hydro experienced the melting of a stringing dolly during conductor stringing on an isolated and grounded HVDC line during a transient on an adjacent energized HVDC line. This paper describes the work that was taking place and the conditions that led to the failure of the stringing dolly. The results of the subsequent investigation are presented along with the safe working practices that were developed for working with downed conductor adjacent to energized HVDC lines. The situation for HVAC adjacent lines was investigated and the results are described
