Abstract :
The MBB LIPS III experiment was designed for the in-flight testing of five advanced Si solar cells and two GaAs solar cells. The influence of cell type, cell thickness, and coverglass thickness on the degradation behavior of the cells in the LIPS III proton/electron environment, was investigated. Results of 2.5 years of LIPS III flight data are presented. The data were evaluated using a least-squares data reduction technique. The variation of the cell parameters Isc, Pmp, and Voc over the mission are presented for each cell and compared with the theoretical degradation obtained by application of the trapped particle models for the solar maximum. The linearly averaged curve of the measured data was found to correlate well with the calculated data. Some periodic anomalies related to seasonal variations were identified
