Abstract :
The authors present a compatibility theorem between two real rational impedances which may or may not be positive real. It is based on the complex normalized scattering matrix of an n-port network. Instead of the existence of the scattering matrix of a passive network given by Wohlers or the coefficient constraints by Youla or Chan and Kuh, a simple determinantal description is given. The compatibility conditions for both passive and active impedances are greatly simplified
