Abstract :
The identification of emitters by an ESM (electronic support measure) system is becoming increasingly difficult due to the presence of emitters exercising complex parameter modulations such as frequency agility. Pulse de-interleaving techniques that can be used in this situation fall into the following categories: time-of-arrival de-interleaving, pigeon hole de-interleaving, and de-interleaving using metric techniques. The authors give a review of these techniques and their limitations in performance in the presence of frequency-agile and pulse-repetition-interval-agile radars. Three algorithms for ESM data processing are also discussed. An adaptive cell size de-interleaving approach dynamically optimizes the cell dimension based on the criterion described. The algorithm has been tested in a simulated ESM data processor. The implementation of the algorithm together with program and data structures are given. The approach and structure of moving cell algorithm and bulging cell algorithm are also discussed.<>
