Abstract
As an application of a large amount of existing PC-type computers, the authors have developed a convenient environment, called DADENT, for developing distributed software. Fundamental considerations of the design are cost-effectiveness and usage convenience. As an eight man-year effort, DADENT now is completed and operates as expected. From a hardware point of view, a number of programmable switches (SIS) connected in user-favorite topology constitutes a backplane of the DADENT. From a software point of view, a simple interface is provided to support process communication. The functionalities and key technical points of DADENT are introduced
