Abstract :
Currently, two types of interfaces are standardized: basic and primary rate. The interfaces contain multiple information transfer channels allowing circuit as well as packet mode communication. The signalling needed to control the establishment of the circuit-switched channels is conveyed over a separate signalling channel. A description is given of the structure and functional characteristics of ISDN interfaces of both types. The author also reviews the status of the associated international standardization activities
