Abstract
The Trans-America grid (TAG) project is a strategic initiative to develop a high-voltage electric transmission system that would overlay the currently existing transmission system across the Western and Midwestern portions of the continental United States. It will enable the development of new electric generation in energy-rich low-cost regions of the country and provides the means to tie newly constructed (and existing) generation to electrical load centers across the US. The proposed grid also will provide diversification of peak loading and diversification of renewable energy generation across the country; thereby, reducing peaking capacity requirements and improving the reliability of wind generated power.
