Abstract
Body fluid balancing of a patient is a critical issue in long surgical operations. Currently, the anaesthetist administers the body fluid through the input/output model of the processes involved which is estimated using acquired knowledge and experience. A decision support system (DSS) is developed in this work to assist the anaesthetist in this process. The DSS is built based on fuzzy logic control which is ideal for developing input/output models in an unstructured and imprecise environment. The fuzzy rules used in this decision support system are derived automatically from the clinical data produced in surgical operations. The performance of the DSS in comparison with the judgement of an anaesthetist is illustrated
