  • Abstract
    This paper studies the performance of a new protection relay based on fault transient signal analysis in power systems with power electronic converters. The principle of the fault transient signal based protection technique is described. The operation and control of the power electronic system, a voltage source converter based HVDC system are discussed. Simulation studies are performed to study the response of the fault transient signal based relay in power systems connected with power electronic converters. The results show that the protection scheme is suitable for such power systems
