  • Abstract
This paper proposes an integrated AC drive/VAr compensator system which uses information available from the AC drive control boards to generate the reference waveforms for the SVC, hence achieving faster response times to transients. The paper also investigates the device ratings required for the proposed medium voltage AC drive/SVC system and means of connection to AC mains. Various front end rectifiers (different levels of VAr/harmonic compensation) are studied and their effects on the switch ratings are compared. Simulation results are obtained to confirm theoretical derivations
