Abstract :
The main features of a hybrid predictive/transform system which has been implemented in the framework of the European project EU 256 are outlined. The main parameters of this system are in accordance with those under study in CMTT for transmitting conventional component TV. The codec architecture and the actual hardware are described. The codec is designed to operate with various TV and HDTV formats and with a wide range of transmission rates. Some performance and applications considerations are reported
