Abstract :
With special regard to the characteristics required for a TV rebroadcast system, optimized criteria were elaborated for the design of photovoltaic generators. They allowed the development of highly reliable generators having such a low cost that in most cases they represent the best technical-economic choice despite the availability of a power supply line. On the basis of such criteria, RAI is successfully operating a network of more than 80 stations. Results for a twelve-year period of operation are shown, which attest to the effectiveness of the adopted solutions: system availability and MTBF (mean time between failure) values have been obtained that are satisfactory for telecommunication systems, at a low cost
