Abstract
The analysis of the performance of decision feedback equalizers is complicated by the effects of error propagation. Incorrect decisions result in an increase in intersymbol interference at the input to the decision device. Previously, a variety of bounds on the error probability of the DFE have been developed. In this paper a new, exact method for calculating the error probability at the output of a DFE is presented and the technique is applied to several examples using multi-level and multi-dimensional signalling schemes
