Abstract :
With the share of wind energy increasing in the electrical power supply, its influence on grid stability will become significant. The focus of the plant control will have to shift from maximum power yield to grid friendly layout. This paper analyses the influence of different wind energy converter control methods on the connected electrical grid. Conventional controls, like optimal rotor speed control, and a new control, the stochastic dynamic optimization, are analyzed. The results show the superior performance of the stochastic dynamic optimization in regard of combining high power yield and low power fluctuation. Therefore, reducing the wind energy converter impact on the grid stability can be achieved by utilizing appropriate control structures.
