Abstract :
Existing simulation tools have considerable limitations in what concerns the study of network mobility. These derive not only from lack of appropriate functionality but also from the inability to cope with very large-scale scenarios, thus limiting simulations to scenarios for which the impact of architectural and performance differences is hardly relevant or non-existent. In this paper, a simulation tool specifically developed for the simulation of very large-scale network mobility scenarios is presented. Being a horizontally scalable tool, the size of the scenarios is only limited by the size of the cluster in which it runs. Tests reaching up to tens of thousands of networks and end-systems, either fixed or mobile, were done. In order to illustrate the use of the simulator -named mobSim - some simulation results for a very large-scale scenario are presented.
