Abstract :
We develop a maximum likelihood optimum demodulation scheme for direct optical detection of PPM signals used in airborne/underwater communications. We use the irradiance of an optical pulse propagating through clear air and sea water derived using radiative transport theory. This hybrid optical channel is characterized by intersymbol and interslot interference
